Amantaka Buddhist Celebrations:
The town of Luang Prabang boasts a history and culture that are intrinsically linked to Theravada Buddhism, with around 1,200 monks and novices residing in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. From 13-16 September the town will be celebrating Boun Khao Padap Dinh. This festival honors the deceased and culminates in boat racing on Nam Khan River. Another imminent celebration is Boun Ook Phan-Sa which marks the end of Buddhist Lent. Occurring 29 October – 1 November, it involves evening candlelit processions and hundreds of colorful floats decorated with flowers, incense and candles adrift on the Mekong River. Situated in the heart of Luang Prabang, Amantaka offers insight into Buddhist culture and an array of activities to get closer to daily life in Luang Prabang during these Buddhist festivals.
Set on a large garden estate, Amantaka is housed in graceful French colonial buildings in the UNESCO protected town of Luang Prabang. Airy and elegant throughout, the décor and furnishings reflect the town’s French colonial history. Situated just south of Phousi Hill, the resort is within strolling distance of the boutiques, bakeries and restaurants lining the town’s main street. The fabled night market, the picturesque banks of the Mekong River and the former Royal Palace are also nearby.
