One&Only Hotels & Resorts Announces Plans For Brand Evolution

One&Only, created exclusively for the ultra-luxury market, and conceived as a hallmark of excellence, is evolving their portfolio beyond award-winning Beach Resorts with One&Only Nature Resorts, One&Only Urban Resorts and One&Only Private Homes. These new experiences will complement the existing award-winning resort collection, set in some of the most beautiful locations in the world, offering guests a distinctive style and personality borne of its local culture, a genuine hospitality and a lively energy that is unparalleled.

“I am thrilled we are able to continue to evolve the One&Only experience, providing the once-in-a-lifetime experiences in which our guests seek,” says Philippe Zuber, President and Chief Operating Officer, One&Only Resorts. “Building on the legacy and success of One&Only, it is an exciting time for the brand as we continue to combine completely distinctive experiences with ultra-luxury. We look forward to sharing additional locations for our resorts, whether it be in the ultimate address in a prime city or an authentically wild undiscovered location soon.”

All One&Only Nature Resorts will offer incredible once-in-a-lifetime experiences and provide pure celebration of each dramatic location, offering access to nature’s best kept secrets, in an inspired itinerary, curated for the most discerning global travellers. Intimate in size, the architectural design of each resort will respect the surroundings and cleverly frame the best aspects of the natural beauty. Minimal impact will be made to the location, from development through to operations and guests will have an opportunity to ‘give back’ with hands-on, interactive, immersive experiences with the local community, each perfectly curated to the destination.

Following the success of Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley in Australia as the first hotel in the world to achieve internationally accredited carbon-neutral certification by CarbonZero, all One&Only Nature Resorts will aim for this distinction. In addition, our culinary philosophy will be based on the very best seasonal, regional and, where possible, organic produce from local boutique farms, private growers and vintners. A wide variety of spectacular accommodation will place an emphasis on privacy and beautiful vistas. One&Only Nature Resorts will provide luxury of the rarest kind. Like all properties within the One&Only collection, One&Only Nature Resorts will celebrate its location, showcasing the country’s rich history and reflecting the local culture with a design appeal to attract the contemporary traveller seeking ultimate luxury.

Joining Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley, two spectacular resorts will be introduced under One&Only Nature Resorts, One&Only Nyungwe House and One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, both located in Rwanda. One&Only Nyungwe House is designed to fit harmoniously within its natural surroundings and is situ ted in Gisakura, a working tea plantation, on the edge of the Nyungwe National Park. The Nyungwe Forest is thought to be one of the oldest forests in Africa, with incredible diversity including over 13 different species of primates, representing 20% of all the apes in Africa and 75 different species of mammals.

Luxury suites and villas will be modern in design, yet with traditional African touches, each overlooking the vast African terrain with private decks and fire places. Guests can explore the National Park including exploratory treks to discover chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, grey – cheeked mangabeys and the Kamiranzovu Swamps and Waterfalls. Bird watching should not be missed with over 275 species of birds in the lush surroundings, including giant hornbills, great blue turacos and red-breasted sparrow hawks being amongst the bird-watcher’s favourites. Cultural walks can also be enjoyed. One&Only Nyungwe House will begin welcoming guests in 2017.

“We are proud and excited to continue to innovate at One&Only and introduce new experiences for our guests. One&Only Nature Resorts will provide our guests illuminating and immersive experiences full of adventure that will allow for exploration and discovery,” continued Philippe Zuber. “Rwanda is such an incredible destination with truly once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We look forward to immersing our guests in the country and culture and providing that ultimate connection with nature in the ultimate locations.”

One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, located near the village of Kingi, will be incredibly positioned on the foothills of the Virunga Volcano range. This beautiful resort, nestled amongst a forest of eucalyptus trees will provide breath-taking views of Rwandan hills and the slopes of the Volcanoes National Park. Guests will be able to discover the magical habitat of Mountain Gorillas, a rare adventure. Rwanda is one of only three countries in the world where the critically endangered mountain gorillas live. Experts estimate that there are only 780 mountain gorillas still in existence – and one third of these are in Rwanda. Conservation efforts are funded by a very limited amount of permits and funds are allocated to anti-poaching efforts and local communities businesses. However, after over 40 years of conservation and habitat restoration efforts have helped steadily increase the population of mountain gorillas, with a 14% increase in the past 12 years. In addition to the Gorilla Trek, guests will also be able to discover Golden Monkeys, as well as visit Dian Fossey’s Karisoke Camp.

Bespoke accommodation will honour the location and natural elements will be woven throughout the resort, to inform the design of both the public and private spaces of the resort. Local African cuisine will surround a traditional Boma, providing the perfect location to share adventures from the day and enjoy fruit and vegetables from the resort’s garden. The resort will also offer an indulgent One&Only Spa and Fitness Centre, honouring the inspired surrounds with treatments using traditional African elements, as well as the latest state-of-the-art technology.

Amazing Thailand Romance Travel Guide

Posted By : travelisswell/ 53 0

Just because you didn’t steal Sean Lowe’s heart on this season of The Bachelor doesn’t mean you can’t plan an adventurous and refreshing Thai vacation!

Whether you’re a fan of ABC’s The Bachelor or just a fan of Thailand, Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Travel Guide Northern Edition makes it easy for you to plan the vacation of a lifetime.

This season on The Bachelor, Sean Lowe took the final-three ladies to Thailand’s Trang province, then made his final decision in picturesque Chiang Rai. While looking for love, the women and Sean experienced many facets of Thai culture and enjoyed Thailand’s beautiful scenery. Our first travel guide for southern Thailand takes you through the Trang province and nearby areas, ensuring you have enough recommendations for a fun-filled vacation.

“Chiang Rai is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. It’s really an amazing place and I really built a lifetime of memories in those few days.”
– Sean Lowe, The Bachelor

In the second guide of the two-part series, our northern Thailand journey recommendations take you through Chiang Rai, the first capital of the ancient Lanna Kingdom, highlighting must-see activities, as well as some exciting hidden treasures not featured on The Bachelor.
The Bachelor Travel Guide: Thailand

Sean’s first date of the episode with Lindsay started with a relaxing ride down the sacred Mekong River, bubbly in hand. But, a river float isn’t the only way to explore the Golden Triangle, kayaking and mountain biking tours will help you explore the beautiful terrain as well.

Nestled throughout the region you’ll find settlements of Thailand’s ancient hill tribes living much the way they have for hundreds of years.
If you want to learn more about Chiang Rai’s fascinating hill tribes, the best way to do it is to immerse yourself in their culture.

These Thai hill tribes migrated to the thick forests and mountains of Chiang Rai centuries ago. Typical trek itineraries visit Akha, Karen, Lisu and Lahu tribe villages. The Akha Hill House is a particular favorite trekking group, beloved for its affordability and friendly staff.

As their date drew to a close, Sean and Lindsay released paper lanterns into the sky with wishes for “love, happiness and family” written on them. Casting off paper lanterns is a famous Thai tradition, meant to bring good luck.

If you’re the kind of traveler who enjoys planning visits around festivals and events, Thailand’s Loi Krathong festival should be on your bucket list! Known by many as the festival of lights, this festival symbolizes good fortune for the year to come. In 2013, it’s scheduled for early November.

On the season’s final date, Sean and Catherine enjoyed an Elephant trek at Anantara’s Elephant Camp.

The Anantara Golden Triangle offers many options for those looking to learn more about these majestic animals, while supporting the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation’s mission to create an abuse free world for all elephants.

If you prefer the view from the ground, the Anantara Golden Triangle elephant camp has other activities for you, including a ‘forest living skills’ trek that teaches participants about edible plants and natural remedies.

As the final episode of The Bachelor drew to a close, Sean had an important decision to make. He couldn’t have picked a better place to propose to his future wife than picturesque Pa Sak Tong. This lush, tropical hotel defines Thai luxury.

Leading up to the big night, The Bachelor’s finalists stayed at the Anantara Golden Triangle’s lavish suites. If you want to recreate their experience for yourself, check out the travel packages on Book Thailand Now.

Sean, Catherine and Lindsay saw many of Chiang Rai’s beautiful sights, but missed the chance to visit the city’s gorgeous temples. If you can’t get enough of ancient Thai history and appreciate amazing architecture, these locations are a must-visit:

White TempleWhile most Chiang Rai temples are rich in history, the stunning and popular Wat Rong Khun was recently built in 2008. This temple’s gleaming white architecture earned it the nickname, The White Temple.

Find your center at Chiang Rai’s most revered Buddhist temple, Wat Phra Kaew, originally called Wat Pa Yia. Legend is that lighting struck this temple’s octagonal chedi in 1434, causing it to split open and reveal the Emerald Buddha. Now this religious artifact is housed in a Bangkok temple bearing the same name.
thailand 4
Many people journey to Chiang Rai to visit the White Temple, but they forget to visit its brother, the Black Temple. Created by Thai artist, Thawan Duchanee this temple is quite an architectural feat. The temple is made of 40 small black houses constructed from different materials, from concrete to glass.

Looking for a more adventurous Chiang Rai trip than The Bachelor finalists had? Head to Boomerang National Park where couples and friends can rock climb, zip line and explore caves together.

Phu Chi Fa SunriseOn the hunt for a more scenic view? Phu Chi Fa is known for its cool climate, sea of fog and variety of wildlife species. The Bachelor’s Sean even photographed this breathtaking view for his blog. It’s the perfect place to take in a sunrise with your love.

After an event-filled day of trekking in Chiang Rai’s jungle or mountains, relax at one of the “best spas in the world.” We recommend indulging in one of the great natural treatments offered.

And, if you’re more of a beach bum than an adventurer, don’t worry. Chiang Rai isn’t known for its beaches, but the park bordering the Mekong River comes close. Bring a picnic, kick back and enjoy the breathtaking views.

Whether you spend the day trekking through the jungle, relaxing in a park or floating down the Mekong, Chiang Rai’s night bazaar, located off of Phaholyothin Road, is the perfect place to take an evening stroll. Shop for souvenirs while feasting on Thai delicacies or take in one of their notorious free dance shows.

If our travel recommendations have you inspired to visit Thailand and you need help planning your trip, tourismthailand.org/us has all the information you need to plan a dream vacation, and our southern Thailand travel guide makes it easy to pinpoint activities to make your vacation throughout Thailand worth remembering.

On a budget? Don’t worry, our partner deals on Book Thailand Now can get you to Thailand without breaking the bank.

If you’re returning from a trip to Thailand, we want to hear about your experience! Find us on Facebook or Twitter and tell us about your Thai adventures.

Lions
Day 1, Friday:   Nairobi
Your safari adventure begins with a warm welcome by our customer service representatives upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi. You will be driven to your luxurious hotel where you will relax in your air-conditioned suite. Nairobi Safari club, formerly a private club for members only is the ideal place to be.Day 2, Saturday:   Nairobi – Amboseli
After an early breakfast we head via Nairobi and proceed to Amboseli National Park through the statan lava plateau. Beautifully situated beneath the foot of Africa’s highest mountain Mt. Kilimanjaro (5895m), the park is well renowned for its huge herds of elephants and various types of other Savannah wildlife such as Giraffes, Bushbuck’s, Kudu, Warthog’s, Zebra’s and over 425 species of birds recorded here. The snowcapped peak of Kilimanjaro rising above white clouds dominates every aspect of Amboseli and forms a backdrop to an impressive display of wildlife attracted to this location by swamps and springs fed by underground rivers from Kilimanjaro’s melting snow. With an airstrip at Empusel Gate, the park is also home to the Masai people, those tall, brave, and proud nomads who live in close harmony with the environment and the wildlife that surrounds them. Amboseli was the location where famous writers like Sir Ernest Hemingway and Robert Ruark tailored their stories of big game hunting in the wilds of Africa.Enjoy a game drive en-route, as we arrive in time for lunch at our lodge, situated deep in the heart of the world famous Amboseli National Park. The lodge itself draws on a subtle Maasai cultural motif, featuring natural woodcarvings, traditional artefacts and a glowing selection of local art. The rooms, each with an uninterrupted view over the ever-changing vistas of the African plains, are styled to a traditional Maasai concept featuring beadwork, gourds, hand-painted murals and the clever use of the traditional manyatta bent-brushwood effect so as to blend.

Day 3, Sunday:  Amboseli

A dawn game drive will be the perfect time for photographing the humbling and magnificent Mt. Kilimanjaro the highest peak in Africa. We return to the lodge for breakfast and some rest and relaxation, sunbathing, swimming or for those of you reading enthusiasts, you can read the day away in the well-stocked library with a relaxing view of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Later that day we head out for our afternoon sunset game drive.

Day 4, Monday: Amboseli – Mt. Kenya
After an early breakfast we head for Nairobi, “The City Under The Sun” for an early lunch. Heading further north, we drive through coffee plantations to the Mountain Lodge. The Lodge, which comes alive at night with the various sounds of animals, is one of the exotic “Tree Hotels” situated in the heart of Mt. Kenya’s forest reserve. All of the rooms have large window from which you can look beyond the trees to observe the endless parade of wildlife. You can watch these animals from the safety of your room or from a specially built viewing bunker connected to the lodge by a tunnel, which affords you an amazing up-close view of the animals as they visit waterholes and saltlick.

Day 5, Tuesday: Aberdares – Samburu
After breakfast, we drive we drive northward through Nanyuki town , crossing the northernmost foothills of Mount Kenya, until we reach Isiolo town and then down into the thorny landscape of Samburu country (Filming location of the Hit CBS Survivor III, series). The life-giving Uaso Nyiro River plays a major role in the ecosystem of this region.

Our lodge beautifully incorporates the existing natural springs as one of its special features. The 1989 movie “Born Free”, a true-life story of George and Joy Adamson was shot in the Game Reserve and some of the scenes were shot at the lodge. An open-air restaurant over looking the river, swimming pool, curio shop, bars, and it’s location at an oasis make it a perfect base from which to explore the Shaba Reserve, as well as its sister reserve – Buffalo Springs to the west.

Lunch will be served at the lodge, where spring water flows throughout the lodge to form beautiful water cascades and sparkle into the Uaso Nyiro River. You’re also able to view crocodiles in the river below from the safety of the viewing platform located on the lodge grounds.  Apart from being the only location in Kenya where you will find Gerenuk, the reserve is renowned for its unique collection of other species of animals, such as Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Grey Zebra, Cheetah, and Lions. After enjoying an afternoon Game (wildlife) viewing in the reserve filled with scenic beauty, we return for dinner.

Day 6, Wednesday: Samburu
Before dawn we head out in search of Africa’s wild cats. From the game drive we return to the lodge for breakfast and some rest and relaxation or perhaps read a book/novel, sunbathe and go for a refreshing dip in the uniquely designed swimming pool before heading out again on your afternoon game drive.

Day 7, Thursday: Samburu – Lake Nakuru
After an early breakfast bid farewell to Shaba as we drive south through Isiolo, crossing the foothills of Mount Kenya. Heading west we make a brief stopover at Nyahururu Falls, still known to many as Thomson’s falls for its 237ft cascade. After the stopover, we drive to our next destination Lake Nakuru known as an ornithological paradise by birdwatchers.

After the stopover, we drive southward to our next destination Lake Nakuru. Located in the Great Rift Valley 1750 meters above sea level, Lake Nakuru is known as an ornithological paradise by birdwatchers because it is world famous as the location of the greatest bird spectacle on earth boasting any where between one and two million lesser and greater pink flamingos that feed on the abundant algae thriving in the lakes warm waters. It is one of the few parks that have been specifically established (Gazetted) for the protection of birds specifically flamingoes, with more than 450 species of birds recorded here. The park has also been established for the protection of endangered species such as the rhino and is home to Columbus monkeys, Leopards, Giraffes, and a variety of plain antelope.

Lunch will be served at our lodge, which is situated in the south ecological niche of the park. The lodge blends in perfectly well with its natural surroundings and animals often patrol peacefully close to the lodge adding to its captivating magic. An afternoon game drive around the lakeshore will be the main feature for the afternoon.  Dinner & overnight.

Day 8, Friday: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara
Today our safari will take us to the jewel of Kenya’s parks, the world famous Masai Mara Game (Wildlife) Reserve. This is Kenya’s number one park and is always on every tourist’s “Must see list”. Full of life with various types of animals and birds, Masai Mara crown’s the climax of every safari in Kenya. Its rolling grasslands and acacia savannah have time and again been captured on film with the movie “Out Of Africa” being the most famous. Masai Mara is home to the “Big Five” (Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard and Rhino) and over 450 bird species. Apart from the big five, the Masai Mara is most famous for the spectacular annual migration of over a million wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and other animals from the Serengeti in northern Tanzania crossing the Mara River into Kenya in search of fresh feeding grounds, which takes place in late July or August. During this crossing, hundreds of animals are swept away by the first moving Mara River and others are killed by the ferocious African Crocodiles. This crossing gives true meaning to the phrase “Survival of the fittest”.

Your home for the following two nights will be at one of the excellent Mara Sopa lodges. “Sopa” means welcome in the Masai language and true to its name, the lodge and its staff offer first class customer service and accommodations under a welcoming atmosphere. Set in the Oloolaimutia valley the lodge blends in perfectly well with its surrounding hillside landscape. P.S don’t forget your swimming suit for a midday or night swim under the star filled African sky. After lunch and some time for relaxation, our driver/guide will take us for an afternoon game drive in search of the shy and elusive leopard, the solitary and ill-tempered Rhino, lions, buffalos, and many others. As the sun starts to edge its way dip into the African horizon it will be the perfect opportunity to photograph the beautiful Mara landscape.

Day 9, Saturday: Masai Mara
We start the day off with an early morning game drive before dawn, followed by breakfast at the lodge. Enjoy a swim in the pool under the African sun or just sit back and relax for the rest of the morning.

In the afternoon we return to the bush in search of wildlife, such as Thomson’s and Grant’s Gazelle, elephants, lions, and the solitary and ill-tempered Rhino, among others.

Day 10, Sunday:  Masai Mara – Nairobi – Home
After breakfast, we drive back to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon enjoy a tour of Nairobi “The City Under The Sun”, including the famous Giraffe Center (maybe you will get kissed). Tonight enjoy our Farewell Dinner at the world famous Carnivore Restaurant considered “Africa’s greatest eating experience” (if you love barbecue it doesn’t get better than this), and home to the “Simba Saloon” one of the most popular night clubs. Thereafter you will be transferred to the Airport for your safe journey home.
